Christmas Day

The floor is all covered
In boxes and wrap
And I’m starting to feel
That it’s time for a nap

The kids are all playing
With all their new toys
My wife’s on the phone chatting
Despite all of the noise

And I on the couch
Feeling a yawn
Close my eyes
And I’m gone

I’ll have to have one of the kids clean up the mess when I wake up…
ZZZzzzzzz…..

Forgotten

Tired
Dizzy…
Hunger…
A light headed dream
Thoughts that wonder
And go unseen
To a happier place
And a happier time
A happier state of mind
Away from the hard realities
That sharply confront me
And surrounds me
In misery
Away…
I drift…
Again…
Unseen.

Values

I have learned
Not to value knowledge, so much
Or money or power
For these things are of this world
And wax and wane
Like the phases of the moon

What I have learned
To value
Is love and compassion
Mercy and grace
For these things are of a higher wisdom
And come from the spirit

Poetry - Words - Life

Poetry:
Words come to life.

Words:
Symbolic communication that lasts.

Life:
Existence with spirit.

Gingerbread Houses

Gram cracker walls
And candied panes
Chocolate chimneys
And weather vanes

A heavy layer
Of white frosting snow
Covers the place
Marshmallow snowmen go

Amongst ice-cream cone trees
On gumdrop lanes
By lemon drop shrubs
And candy canes

The Keebler elves
As a choir sings
Of a child born in Bethlehem
And the salvation he brings

The Gossip

Loquacious comments
She readily made
And fallacious statements
As if on a crusade

No one was immune
To her glairing critique
And everyone cringed
At her wrathful technique

Exasperated hyperbole
With gossip and hype
Never in kindness
She only would gripe

So she found it quite strange
When no one would come
And alone in the world
Is what she’d become

The Dance

Following unseen pathways
Not shown on the floor
Waving body, arms and hands
To a musical score

What is this thing
They seek to do
That moves the hearts
Of me and you

Adding motion to music
And helping us to see
The message inside the music
Setting that message free

Shangri-la

Shangri-la
Where wisdom abounds
Shangri-la
Where beauty surrounds

This wonderful place
Where the seekers go
Over high mountains
All covered in snow

Into to the valley
Of eternal spring
Where goodness abounds
In everything

And love like a bird
Takes hold of your soul
Sweeping you higher
Making you whole

Contemplating this beauty
I find within
The spirit of something
That always has been

And by listening with care
I start a new walk
And I learn of this spirit
As we begin to talk

For Shangri-la
It its truest form
Is simply the bible
And how you transform

Turn to God

Turn to God
When you have nowhere else to turn
Turn to Christ
When all your bridges burn

Turn to God
Read his word and learn
Turn to Christ
Your love He’ll never spurn

Turn to God
In thanksgiving and in prayer
Turn to Christ
And lay your soul bare

Turn to God
You are is sacred heir
Turn to Christ
When you need him he’s always there

Hope and Faith

See the beauty everywhere
The miracles that constantly abound
See love that’s everywhere
Love that’s deep and profound

Hope is always and eternal
For the genuine you
It may take patience and understanding
It may be building you anew

Enjoy the journey
Give peace a place
And give it time
And you’ll feel God’s grace

Use the first minute
Of every day
To renew your faith
And create your day

Ye Old Christmas Tree

The Christmas tree was up
Yet totally unadorned
The home of those squirrels
Would surely be mourned

For we chopped it right down
While they scurried out
They look through our windows
And I could see them all pout

We hung up the lights
And ornaments with care
And set around the presents
That soon we would share

Then up we went
To our rooms to sleep
We never did hear
Those little squirrels creep

They watched us all go
Each to his bed
And watched each light go off
Before they started to head

Into our house
And up to the tree
Their old home all lighted
They saw with much glee

And then they saw
Each carefully wrapped box
And next to the fireplace
Our old Christmas socks

Each stuffed and filled
With various things
Like clothes and toy
And candy and rings

And in the bottom of each stocking
A nice little bunch
Of nuts and fruit
And goodies to much

For such was the tradition
From days of old
And all of those goodies
Made those squirrels quite bold

Up to those stocking
They clambered and jumped
They chewed holes in the bottoms
And the goodies all dumped

They sorted the goodies
And each squirrel snacked
Then went back to the tree
To where the presents were stacked

Then quietly and carefully
They opened each one
Each taking turns
Until all were done

Then took all their presents
To their new home outside
Where they went
We couldn’t decide

It served us right
For taking their place
For a fancy decoration
And not showing grace

The Cross

Have you ever thought
What the world would be like
Without the cross?
A world without grace or mercy…
Cross indeed!
