The Bear and the Mouse
The bear in the wooden house
With clock upon the walls
Crafted himself a wooden mouse
That walks along the halls
The mouse was run
With clockwork things
Like gears and pendulums
And hands and springs
So he always knew
What time it was
Time for breakfast,
Lunch or dinner because
The bear would sit
And plan and think
And often forget
To eat or drink
So the mouse would find him
And tell him the time
And make him get up
Go and dine
And the bear would thank him
And wind his spring
The mouse would thank him
And start to sing
And such did happen
For a very long time
And they would sit and talk
About numbers prime
Like seven and thirteen
Eleven and nineteen
Two hundred and forty eight thousand
One hundred and nineteen
And often they wondered
How far they would go
Like irrational seeds
They seemed to grow
And they worked on strange numbers
Like Planks constant and Pi
Often irrational and weird numbers
Would catch their eye
So they would sit there and talk
Together in their math
Eating and thinking
And sometimes taking a bath
And so they were
And still are today
Thinking about math
Like a game they play
With clock upon the walls
Crafted himself a wooden mouse
That walks along the halls
The mouse was run
With clockwork things
Like gears and pendulums
And hands and springs
So he always knew
