If I Was Only....
If I was only ten
And could live over again
I’d change many things
To see what live brings
And play practical jokes on old men
If I was only nine
That would surely be fine
I’d chase lots of girls
And tie up their curls
Now that would be truly divine
If I was only eight
Now that would truly be great
I would be really handy
And eat lots of candy
Though I’d probably put on some weight
If I was only seven
It would be like living in heaven
I’d go out and fish
And cook up a dish
Of trout and bread that is leaven
If I was only six
I’d surely be full of fun tricks
Like an electric shock pen
And an old rubber hen
I’d do it just for the kicks
I’d try to learn how to drive
I’d take dad’s old car
Though I wouldn’t go far
And we’d show on TV all live
If I was only four
Now that surely would be a bore
I couldn’t go out
I’d just sit and pout
And I wouldn’t be able to explore
If I was only three
I’d go try to climb and old tree
I try to go high
And climb up to the sky
And swing upside down in glee
If I was only two
I don’t know what I would do
I couldn’t do much
Just stand and clutch
To whatever I saw, even you
If I was only one
Then I’d end just as I begun
I still couldn’t run
Or have any of fun
And my poem would surely be done
And could live over again
I’d change many things
To see what live brings
And play practical jokes on old men
If I was only nine
That would surely be fine
I’d chase lots of girls
And tie up their curls
Now that would be truly divine
If I was only eight
Now that would truly be great
I would be really handy
And eat lots of candy
Though I’d probably put on some weight
If I was only seven
