The Deft Illusionist

The deft handed conjurer
Stood on the stage
Casting illusions for all

But the greatest illusion
The audience didn’t see
For it had started for him that fall

In political campaigns
Where promises were made
This illusionist made a great pledge

And with smoke and mirrors
Of the devious kind
He kept is opponents on edge

And when bills were made
The lobbyist paid
And a greater killing was had

And when the poor public heard
They thought it quite absurd
And believed his opponents were mad

And the illusionist live
The live of a king
Making bills and doing old fashion card tricks

For his great public audience
Would believe anything
For by his magic he held them transfixed
