Working Lunch

Sitting at his desk
Eating alone
Clicking and typing
Into work he is thrown

No time to relax
There’s deadlines to meet
So he works through his lunch
Barely managing to eat

A spoonful here
A couple clicks there
Leftover dinner
His woeful fare

The rest of the day
He works with great haste
Trying to ensure
That he isn’t replace

Then late at night
He finally goes home
And staggers to bed
He flops with a groan

His wife fast asleep
With child in arm
How long has it been
He thinks in alarm

Since he saw them at home
With bright open eyes
Far far too long
He could only surmise

Then off to sleep
Till his alarm rang again
Waking up and starting off
Another day to begin
